Water, water, everywhere...
Jun. 25th, 2007 12:06 pmIt has rained quite a lot recently. I was trying to explain this to Lissa last night, and I wonder if she thinks I was exagerrating... We've had so many thunderstorms recently that I've lost count, and according to how quickly my wheelbarrow is filling up, I'd estimate that we've had something between 1 1/2 and 2 inches of rain (at least) every 24 hours for the last two to three weeks. When we have rainstorms, they are of the "buckets of water being thrown at you" variety, and we've been having three or four per day.
I woke up this morning to local radio telling me that great sections of Lincolnshire are impassable due to flooding, and my road has apparently turned into the set of "The River Runs Wild", sans Kevin Bacon.
Thankfully the sun is out now, the worst of the river has dried up (we're down to a heavy gush about 18 inches wide in the middle of the street)and the drains seem able to cope once more.
I'm really sick of rain now, though. The allotment is flooded, the garden is drenched, and I'm in desperate need of some prolonged sunshine. It's Midsummer, for goodness' sake!
