How to get going with Amazon Marketplace, also a quick tally of my luck with it so far.

Definitely in the "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" mode at the moment. The gas on my stove ran out yesterday (we're on bottled gas - too far out for pipeline), and they can't deliver until Wednesday at the earliest. So yesterday's tea of pasta and sauce was cooked in my tupperware pasta cooker (cover pasta with boiling water, leave for 20 minutes, drain and serve) and the microwave. So hey - I saved money on power!

Thanks, that's really handy, especially as I am someone who can't be bothered with setting up as an ebay seller. A pity about paperbacks hardly being worth the effort to sell them; I need to go through and do a purge but if I'm not going to get a return on them, I may as well Book-cross them.

One of the guys at the Cambridge Games is a second hand games dealer who agreed to list Alasdair's old Games Workshop stuff on Ebay for me for a 50% cut. Meant I got less than I could have done but saved me all the hassle of listing and shipping etc. We had an Ebay listing store in town but they went into liquidation I think.

They're dead handy those Tupperware pasta cookers - I get a huge amount of use out of mine, especially if we're away from home and I need to know that I have some food in hand that the kids will eat.

Do you need special tupperware or will any tub do?

The "Multi-Servers" which are sold for the purpose are made of thicker, obscure plastic on the top and bottom and have a seive/colander which fits inside. The lid is curved so that condensation runs to the outside of the lid and drips down the side, rather than back onto the food, which in the case of poached fish is pretty good. Not so important with pasta or rice thought.

I think the big issue is that the top and bottom are insulated, so keep more of the heat in, allowing the pasta/rice to cook. You could experiment with a normal container swaddled in ovengloves or something similar to keep the heat in, I guess.

They seem to sell for about 3 quid on Ebay, though. I'll show you how it works when you visit, if you like?

It's a special thing - go to ebay and search for tupperware pasta - there's a slew of them on there for 2 or 3 quid and it's money well spent. You put your pasta in it and then pour boiling water over it (until covered), put the lid on and wait. Hey presto, cooked pasta without the saucepan boiling over.

I'll admit I haven't tried it on dry pasta - I usually cook the fresh stuff in there but it claims dry pasta (or rice or vegetables) works just as well.
