Took my Ma-in-Law shopping yesterday (requires car as local market town is not on a bus route), and we called into Lidl.

I had nefarious purposes, as I noted that they had breadmakers on special - when my old breadmaker died last year, I mourned its passing, but thought "I'll just bake everything by hand!" and didn't replace it. Turns out that it isn't that easy - I'm a person that gets easily absorbed in tasks such as ironing, or gardening or ... cough... Livejournal. I lost count of the number of times I forgot that my bread was proving, only to have it take over the bowl like The Blob and then knock back to the size of a tiny bap, from which it never recovered. When I'm in the zone (maybe once a week or so) my hand-made bread is great. The rest of the time, it varies from acceptable to ... errr... pitta. So I've really missed having a machine into which I can throw all the ingredients and give it no further thought until butter and pickle are required.

Lidl had a *large* breadmaker (read 1 1/2lb loaf) for £24.99. Bargain! Whilst Ma-in-Law and I were meandering around the aisles, we also noted that they have knitting needles, crochet hooks and yarn on sale, too. The needles and hooks were 99p for a pair of needles or hooks, and 99p for two different sized circular needles or a set of five sock needles. The yarn was all acrylic, but very cheap, so I've bought a *bit* of interesting looking yarn (enough for a small sweater for me) and lots of needles. It cost me very little.

I am happy.

So, if you need a breadmaker or knitting accessories, I highly recommend Lidl this week - next week they'll be gone...
