Gig Report

Another day, another dollar, another gig. This one was at the Stafford Hall Community Centre in Peterborough.

We had a BLAST!!! I'm still grinning today, in fact. It's a great sign when Anne comes to pick me up (I'm the last one to the gigs as I'm usually at home babysitting until the last minute) and says that even before we've started soundchecking, people are coming in, reserving their seating and putting in requests :-) More to the point, it's a ticketed event with us as the only act, so we know they've come explicitly to see us, and are prepared to pay in order to do so. Yay!

True to form, it was a brilliant crowd - really up for a good night, and giving back just as much energy as we were putting in. Mal's wife and daughters had come to see him play, his wife wearing a "I'm in love with a Rock God" T-shirt (none of would argue with that...) and Bethany, his daughter, in a rather fetching turquoise "Fleetfoot Mike" fan shirt :-) The audience were up and dancing from early on in the first set, and at one point during "Dreams", I was convinced I had some kind of bizarre echo delay on my monitoring. I was just about to start complex sign language to Rich to try and sort it out when it dawned on me that it was, in fact, the entire table closest to us (about 10-15 people) all singing along as loudly as they could, in perfect time and pitch :-D Gotta love that!

High points of the evening: Steve and Jane - engaged for a year (the anniversary was that day) and him requesting "Landslide" for her. We did, of course, do it and dedicate it to them, and then they got up and danced. It was *lovely*. Mike and I managed a bit of smooching too...

The blues mini-set in the second set, which went down very well - I came back from my costume change to find the dance floor heaving, and one particularly uninhibited lady managing to completely corpse Mike during "Oh Well" :-)

"Go Your Own Way" had the floor filled to capacity, with everyone chanting along to the words, and when we finished it, even the people sitting down stood up, put their arms into the air and chanted, "FLEETFOOT MIKE! FLEETFOOT MIKE!". Like, Woah...

The floor stayed full for the two encores, we got to dedicate "Goodbye Baby" to Teresa, on whose recommendation we originally got the gig, we're getting a rebooking at the same event, a lead on a further *four* bookings (two of which are for local bike chapters, and I REALLY want to do them - I'm a bike hussy - what can I say?) and we were all asked for our autographs!

A good evening's work :-)

Oh yes, and we got a 25% bonus on top of our agreed fee :-)

Today Tim has gone into London with his brother to visit http://www.drummerlive.co.uk/ . I think I may be in trouble!

This is also probably a good point to say that we've got a Yahoo group starting up:

  • To join the Fleetfoot Mike Yahoo Group, email: fleetfootmike-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
  • You can post to the group here: fleetfootmike@yahoogroups.com

Drop in if you're interested. It's low traffic, so don't worry about getting overwhelmed!
