I'm not gigging tonight with Tim (as Wilderwood), as my voice sounds and feels like my vocal cords have been sandpapered by a maddened baboon. Thankfully, we have useful friends, so Liam (the Unfeasibly Tall Melodeon Player, or UTMP for short) is going to be stepping in for me, and substituting tunes for songs, and generally being me in a "foot and a half taller, and playing a melodeon and not singing" sort of a way.

Hopefully this will give my voice a chance to recover, as it badly needs that chance at the moment. *Cough* The cold has mutated into one of my truly classic coughs (one of the "who put that band of steel around my chest and forced me to inhale feathers?" sort of coughs).

In other good news, I got us a gig at our Local and Organic Centre (it's way more than a shop, so I've given up calling it that) for "Baggsy Not Norma", and Tim has got us even more. The diary now looks like this:

[Baggsy Not Norma: Victorian and Traditional English Carol Singing
Fleetfoot Mike: Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band
Pigeon English - English Ceilidh Music & Dance which rocks harder than a rocky thing
Higgledy Piggledy - English Ceilidh Music. Rocks slightly less. But a good laugh]

... Hi Annie, sorry not to have got ack to you abotu this before but I've been giving it a lot of thought.

THe idea of coming up to you for a few days over the Christmas Break has a lot of appeal, but so does the idea of a huge uninterupted block of time at home with the house pretty much to myself (I "break up for Christmas" a week before Tommdoes and I don't have to work between Christmas and NewYear either.

If we hadn't dithered when you first asked us (thus giving Ma Nanson the opportunity to ask Tom to go to them for Christmas Lunch) we would both have come, but train travel over Christmas, breaking up the Tempting Big Block of time-off, Tom not being able to come 'cos of working and Parents just tips the balance too far in favour of staying home (and seeing how far I can get into my Unfinished Projecgt backlog with [livejournal.com profile] nacofimo)

Hugs

Teddy

Heee, and this was the lady who felt she had too much on & not enough quiet downtime *with* her family, especially on weekends! Looks like you'll barely have time left to eat & sleep for the first half of december! Sounds like fun, though... (well aside from the cough, hope that gets better soon!) :)

That's pretty much what I thought! Do remember to take some down-time once the caroling season is over.

GWS.

GWS?

God's Willing Service?
Great Western Sputniks?

Yes, I'm pretty much looking at that list and thinking, "that's the gig list of a group who has two childless members...". Aiiieeee!

Get Well Soon!

You obviously need every scrap of energy you can muster for that exciting gig list AND work AND family...

It's not as intensive as it looks - a lot of the dates are organised busking, and if I'm tired, I can just call it off without offending anyone. It was the basis of booking things over the McDroge's wedding weekend - we could dump them easily if childcare came through.

Childcare having failed at every hurdle (frustratingly, my InLaws can't do it because they are in Germany *themselves* that weekend - just a very different bit), we'll go yodel carols.

On the whole, I'd rather be at the wedding though :-(

Well, in my defence, we *do* do a fair bit of that stuff anyway - just this time we'll be doing something organised instead of mooching around Christmas Fairs buying stuff.

But still. *GULP*! I am planning on lying in a darkened room and going "bibble" for Christmas.

I guess this answers the question of "did you find a possibility to come to Hamburg on the first weekend of December", then?
Glad for you for your gigs but I really wish you could have been here ...
This means we can/should release the hotel room, yes?
*hugs*

(second attempt, LJ ate the first. I'm starting to feel victimised here!)

Have tried to email, but it would appear that I'm having a bouncybouncy email time.

Mike's coming this afternoon to fix things, though, hopefully.

In short: Brother-in-Law's almost-ex-wife has shattered her leg (oh the tragedy, woe, woe - rarely have I met someone whose leg I wanted to shatter more...) and all plans are screwed. I suspected she'd find a way of mucking up all our hopes, but never suspected it would involve something QUITE so spectacular.

The gigs over that weekend are really just authorised busking, so we could easily have dropped out if the childcare had pulled through.

Anyone out there want two delightful children for the first weekend in December?
