"Medieval Tournament: Making of a Knight" on Discovery Civilisation with Jared.

He's used to hearing the language of re-enactment, and is quite happy to call a woman "Mistress" or "Milady" or even "Your Grace" (if in the proper company). However, the slightly melodramatic voiceover kept referring to women as "damsels". Not such a problem when you hear correctly. However, Jared got very excited by the jousting and wasn't really listening properly. Now he keeps referring to "Damsons in distress".

Now *there's* a mental image! (I don't know about anyone else, but I'm seeing small round fruit in steeple hennin...)

Just so long as you don't have to explain the "double-barreled slingshot" gag, which I've seen at one or two of the slightly more commercial jousts (the first time I saw it was at Lincoln, $_MUMBLE years ago).

(It's an out-of-period garment, Jared.)

[livejournal.com profile] rdmaughan's comment was, "They're in a jam!"

As [livejournal.com profile] plaid_dragon just said when I showed this to her: "What's purple and screams?"

giggle!

Are you sure he didn't say "damsons in dis dress!"? ;-)

Hee. (Damson plum jam is one of my favorites btw, haven't had it in years).

And, have I mentioned that I think our Rowan would love to meet Jared!?
