Oops!

I forgot that yesterday was Tuesday - I've completely lost track of what day of the week it is... This meant that the first I knew about needing to put out the recycling bin was when the bin lorry trundled past at 7.30am. I was still in bed. Ooops.

So, we've got a full 2 weeks'worth of recycling in the bin, and absolutely no desire to fill up the normal rubbish bin with anything (I can go a happy 6 to 8 weeks without a normal bin collection, as long as my recycling goes). I have decided that this means we will be living the next 2 weeks without putting anything into either bin. This pursuit is helped vastly by the fact that it is jolly cold, so we have the stove burning a lot, and we can just use old paper and card to light the fire. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do about canned goods, but we don't use many of those... Maybe I'll wash and store them - Tim did a scrappage weigh-in a couple of weeks ago, and got a nice chunk of money for the effort of taking tins to the scrap merchant instead of chucking it in a bin.

Hear that? Someone will pay *you* for your rubbish! You can make money out of it! Yay! So I need to sort out a couple of water-tight bins for the washed and crushed tins, and somewhere sensible to store glass jars (I plan on filling them with yummy things next year), and I think we're ready to go zero waste! All our food scraps are recycled into either compost or eggs from the grateful chickens, so no worries there. Meat bones burn well on a fire, so those will get chucked in... I'm a bit concerned about the leftover turkey in the fridge, but will do the sniff test later and see what I can do with it. I'm planning on some turkey and veggie stew at least.

I'll see how I do for these two weeks, and maybe we can extend it a bit...
