Well, THAT was a lot of fun!

I was playing for a local charity event, and it was in a medieval manor house.  It was *beautiful*!  Because I was playing for longer than I thought, I added the harp and some acapella numbers into the set list:

Wedding Song (Jack Hardy)
Dorian Midnight
Canon Pertwee Shines
Long Winter Coat (Suntrap)
Rising of the Sea (Talis Kimberley)
Camel (Talis Kimberley)
Dead Men Walking
Nonesuch (trad.)
Leaves of Life (trad.)
Appleby Fair (Talis Kimberley)
Spirals
The Collier

(Those without authors ascribed are my own)
I should add that "Canon Pertwee Shines" is nothing whatsoever to do with Doctor Who or Jon Pertwee.  He was a lovely man, and *my* Doctor, but this isn't anything to do with that.

In the time honoured tradition of events with folk, there was a raffle partway through, so my short set-list didn't matter - it filled the time available perfectly :-)

I thoroughly enjoyed the simplicity of walking in to the event with a bouzouki bag and a harp and needing nothing else.  There was no amplification, but none was really needed, and would have been in the way if I'd brought any.  Tim didn't make it until I'd just about finished, and was very stressed as he'd thought he was needed.  The jokes about "I am Diana Ross, you are the Supremes" were thick and fast...

I had a goodly number of intent listeners and people who said that they thoroughly enjoyed it, which always makes it feel worthwhile.  The lady who runs the local magazine asked what instruments I was playing and needed some help spelling both "clarsach" and "bouzouki" - I pointed out to Tim that I should give up the flute and take up the Shakuhachi instead, so that I can perpetuate the habit of playing unspellable instruments!  I also seem to have scored another gig as a result of it, which makes me all kinds of happy, so hopefully I will be doing something at Spilsby Theatre in October.

All in all, I count this as an unqualified success.  I enjoyed every part of it, and really look forwards to being able to do it again :-)  Thank you for all the good thoughts!
