Oops, I did it again...
Oct. 14th, 2008 06:01 pmWhat did I do again? Well, I bought a harp. (Yes, Phil, I know I have "too many harps" thankyou!*)
After looking into harp hire for the US trip and the necessity of getting it beforehand to practise with, I've realised that in order to get something that I'm happy with (and not frightened about denting or damaging), I'm going to have to spend a reasonably large amount of money.
For the same amount of money, I could buy a brand new travel harp, which would be a Very Useful Thing, as I busk out far more often now than I used to.
So I've just bought a Flatsicle. I've actually bought a "factory second" which has a slightly off centre string and is even cheaper. I'm very happy :-) For those who are curious, mine will be bright, cherry red :-)
This is a practical move on a lot of different fronts - we are travelling over to the States with a lot more *stuff* than we plan on coming back with. Lots of CDs for a starter! (Not to mention gifts and consumables for our pre-con stay). So we'll have more room and weight allowance when we fly back.
Hence - harp ordering. It works out only marginally more expensive than renting and I get to keep the harp at the end of the deal. Plus - I get to have an amplifiable harp which is very useful when working outdoors...
* When Jared was tiny and just learning to talk, Phil decided to teach him to say some things. He taught him that when asked, "how many harps does Mummy have?" he should respond, "Too MANY!". I've only owned one harp for many years now, but Phil hasn't forgotten...
