The Wonders of Carly Simon...
Sep. 4th, 2008 06:53 pmSo, in answer to another friend about productivity and the ability to deal with figures, I accidentally let slip my secret to being a successful entrepreneur and business person:
I hum Carly Simon's "Let the River Run" (aka the "Working Girl" theme), put on business-like clothes, do my hair in a business-like fashion and pretend that I'm someone else. Possibly Melanie Griffiths before the plastic surgery got all bizarre. I pretend that I'm someone who is really great at running a business. And seeing how I am really good at pretending to be other people (I'm a performer - it's what we do), it often works.
Of course, there are always the times when Melanie Griffith suddenly transforms into a couch potato eating chocolate and flipping around the satellite channels, but if the hair and clothes are OK, I can usually wrench her back into the productive zone with a little effort.
Today has been such a day. I ran errands in two seperate towns/cities, renewed internet subscriptions that had previously been unrenewable and posted loads of stuff. Yay!!! I feel like I accomplished a whole bunch of stuff, and am on course for another good day tomorrow, hopefully. My inner Melanie did nosh a couple of "Finger of Fudges" during a bad moment when her blood sugar dipped low, but I managed to eat something sensible immediately after, and apart from guilt over eating in the first place, there were no terrible fallouts.
I still have a "To Do" list the size of a small third-world country, but it's getting done, and the most urgent things have been wiped off. Yay me!
