Luttrell Choir Update
Mar. 18th, 2008 05:44 pmSo, we sang last weekend, and it was *wonderful*. We rehearsed on the Friday in Lincoln Cathedral Chapterhouse, by lamplight, which is just the most incredible way to sing, with wonderful acoustics. *sigh*

Saturday morning and afternoon were spent at Irnham church, recording the three extracts/songs for the DVD and accompanying CD in both video and audio formats.
Here's a really rough recording:
The music was utterly wonderful, and I thoroughly enjoyed being challenged musically. I haven't *had* to read vocal music for many, many years, but these pieces *had* to be read because they were so complex with truly bizarre scansion and very formal latin. Being transcribed from a medieval manuscript, they did not have note lengths, bar lines or time signatures, and a lot of the interpretation came from understanding the latin (my latin is rusty to say the least!), but once we'd all reprogrammed our brains into thinking in medieval terms, it made much more sense.
The conductor (soprano Kate Witney) was making suggestions about doing a more formal concert at Irnham with more music and more musical input from the choir, which excited me a lot. Whilst I love the modern performance that I do, there are very few musical things which I choose to do these days with absolutely no payment or credit of any kind. But this? This I would do again in a breath...
