2am, and I'm not sleepin'...
Feb. 27th, 2008 01:59 amI'm astonished at the ability of the other members of my household to either sleep straight *through* a 4.7 whatever-scale earthquake, or to say, "WOW! Earthquake!" and THEN go to sleep. I, meanwhile, am quite awake, debating the odds of boiling seas of blood and plagues of locusts.
So, despite being very , VERY sleepy, I'm not getting any further on my journey towards the land of Nod right now :-(
But hey - earthquake!
Nb. for those who were unwakeably asleep at 1am this morning, or on another landmass - there was what I (in all my english wussiness) consider to be a really big earthshake. I truly thought Tim was having some kind of grand mal seizure, which was the only thing I could imagine causing the bed to shake that much. It went on for something like 5-10 seconds with smaller aftershocks. It was strong enough to shake the entire house, rattling plates and cups on shelves and generally sounding/feeling a LOT like my bedroom had been repositioned to an Underground carriage on the Northern Line.
THAT was trippy.
I am very thankfuly that it wasn't a plane coming down, as I had feared. We live very close to a number of RAF bases with *big* planes going in and out of them on a daily basis. I had feared that we'd lost an AWAC, which would have caused a hell of a lot of damage, wherever it had come down. So, a big old "phew!" on that front. Bleah. I should probably go read something very dull in an attempt to get back to sleep. I sense that napping might be a part of tomorrow...
EDIT: OK, after a little research, turns out that we were very close to the epicentre (I'm guessing 30 miles or so) which explains why it was so bloomin' noticeable! And on Quadrivium's good advice, I go to read something dull and drink cold milk :-)
