Tired. So very, very tired.
Jul. 29th, 2007 05:50 pmThis was the weekend of two back-to-back gigs in the NorthWest (Bolton and Liverpool). We stayed overnight both nights, as the amount of travel made it impractical to come between the gigs, and we finished Too Damn Late to come back on Saturday night.
Two lovely venues, with a good proportion of Mac-Heads at both. I spent most of the Friday night gig singing directly to people who knew as many of the words as I did - it was lovely :-) The Saturday night was a great venue which was hosting "NecroFest" during the day. I think we were *supposed* to be angry at the scehduling conflict and hate the music, but we seemed to surprise many of the attendees by setting up our gear on the main stage and then heading out to the secondary stage to have a bop, eat barbeque and enjoy the music. Sure - it was very different to our style of music, but it was still good, and we enjoyed it a lot. In fact, Rika bought a CD of one band. I suspect that the sight of a group of middle aged musos bopping away to emo metal was probably not what *some* people expected (I was certainly the only person wearing a mint green tailored t-shirt!), but we're great believers in supporting good live music, wherever, whatever.
I should admit that the fact that the headline act were called "Sheep on Drugs" did lead to many sniggers and comments about Anne's broken foot (which she broke whilst trying to administer drugs to a sheep in the first place), but hey, who are we to ignore a straight line?
Members of the audience who deserved a special mention: Charlotte (she hurt her leg on Friday and couldn't wear the full Stevie rigout she'd planned on!), Bill (wearing a SYW tour t-shirt and nearly didn't let us into Friday's venue!), the dark-haired scottish lady who was weeping at "Goodbye Baby" and said, "Honey if it isn't Stevie Nicks, it's you. Oh it's you..." and made my evening..., Anders & Harry and the entire boatful of Swedish Sailors, and finally Phil, Justin and Gaynor who were the most energetic "Tusk" participants we've had for a goodly time, and had their evening made by Anne doing an unscheduled "Everywhere" in the encores.
Points of disappointment: Saturday's venue was "The Hotel California". There was no warm smell of colitas, and there was a tragic lack of pink champagne on ice, although the great selection of cider kind of made up for that :-) (They also had lovely, clean, comfortable rooms which, after breaking down our kit at 3.30am, we *really* appreciated!).
Thanks to everyone at The Moses Gate and The Hotel California for such a lovely welcome!
