Garden frustrations
Aug. 14th, 2006 04:25 pmThere are a gazillion tomatoes in my greenhouse. But none of them are showing *any* inclination to turn red. I am fed up with looking at them in this hopeful "I'm gonna make so much sauce with you!" way. Ripen already!!!
Got my first female squash flower, after a glut of male ones. Of course, there are now no male ones to fertilise the damned thing. Argh!!!! There I was, paintbrush at the ready, all ready to pimp my pumpkins, but there was no pumpkin booty to be found. *sigh*
In slightly better news, we had some of our small crop of carrots last week. They tasted very good indeed. Also had the first crop from our perpetual spinach ( I cooked it in cheese sauce and both children pronounced it "yummy!"), which will hopefully happily chunter away, cropping steadily until late autumn, early winter.
And blackfly have decimated my broadbeans to the point of not being able to eat them. I take the lesson that I should have planted them earlier. Next year I will do so...
