Drought, huh?
May. 22nd, 2006 04:45 pmSo, let me get this right.
There's a countrywide shortage on water butts because of the terrible, terrible, indeed *appalling*, drought in the South East. In fact the entire country is going through a drought. There isn't a water butt to be found anywhere in the country because it is so pigging dry and we're all going to wither up and get blown away.
Well, could *someone* then explain to me exactly WHY it hasn't stopped raining (and I mean it hasn't stopped for a longer period than 15 minutes at a go) for two weeks? The ground makes a SQUELCH noise when I walk on it. Nothing is growing. This isn't just here, but all over, as apparently all the exhibitors at the Chelsea Flower Show have found that their plants are somewhere between 4 and 5 weeks behind where they should be. Everything is just *sodden*. I've had to resort to using my tumbledrier and putting my heating on again briefly because everything just feels damp.
For the first time in 6 months, I am very, very glad that we haven't started building yet, as it is way too wet to do anything on site. We've finally had the approval on our allotment, but it's so waterlogged that we can't do a damned thing to it. Planting potatoes would be somewhat akin to putting them in a rather muddy bath at the moment.
I *hate* all this grey weather. It makes me depressed and sad. It saps my energy and makes me want to curl up in a ball, eat cake and watch bad television. And it looks set to last until Friday *at least*.
Bleah.
