I had one of those incredibly vivid dreams. It seemed to feature an antiques fair, James Fox (who was married to Joely Richardson, who, in turn, had a tattoo on her left arms which said "I love baddies") and me dressing up as a victorian hooker and wanting to go to a Ball. It was really, really vivid. And when I woke up, I thought, "Hey! That was an interesting dream. I usually only have them that vivid when I've oversl.... ARGHGHGHGHGH!!!!!"

8.50am. Jared needs to be in school at 9.10am latest. He was in the middle of fixing a circuitboard on a robot, and had *no* idea of the time. Our house resembled the first 5 minutes of "Four Weddings and a Funeral" this morning. Thank God for syrupy pancakes straight out of a packet, I say. Really. I mean, "thank you Lord for this quick and tasty breakfast which is so much faster for Jared to eat than, say, muesli...."

He was out and trundling out of the courtyard at 9.10am. School is about 35yards away, so I was pretty pleased with the result.

I think I need another cup of tea to ease me into the day now!

Anyone who read my comment to Lissa yesterday will know that I was looking forwards to a calm day when Jared had gone back to school. It started well - Jared got up and ready on time and we had a pleasant breakfast together. He was very self-motivating in all his pre-school tasks and it was one of those mornings when everything went swimmingly. Hurrah. Ellie and I spent a happy hour or two watching some Winnie the Pooh together and playing Pirates. Then, after lunch I attempted to execute plan "Let's Go Shopping!". Shopping went well. Put shopping into car. Car battery dead. I mean utterly kaput. It wouldn't so much as tickle the starter motor. Bugger. I reached for the mobile phone. Discovered that mobile phone was not in bag. Mobile phone was, in fact, in the change bag which Tim had left in his Dad's car after our New Year meal. Bugger. Went to check watch to see what time was and how much time I had before Jared got out of school. Had left watch on kitchen worktop after doing washing up. Double bugger.

I am pleased to report that the nearby tyre-change place is staffed by very friendly men who were charmed by Ellie announcing that I'd broken the car and we needed some help please. She then persuaded them it would not be a difficult job by practising her ballet moves around the waiting room whilst singing "Easy Peasy!" to the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle". They came and jump-started my car after half and hour and I got back in time for Jared.

I went to look for the battery charger. Had to move Tim's car 6 inches to get into garage. Couldn't find charger. Tim came home. Having remembered that his tax ran out on New Year's Eve, he went to get it today to find that actually the MOT ran out a few days before that. Thankfully we haven't been using it, but still - argh! He went to start the car to take it to the garage. His car wouldn't start. Battery completely dead too. Two dead cars and no battery charger. *sigh* Empty garages in dark, lit by rope and fairy lights, finally find battery charger. Doesn't seem to help. Both cars dead? Waugh! After an hour of thinking awful things about our regular mechanic, we finally discovered that charger not working due to blown fuse in charger body. Empty garages *again* looking for specialist fuse. Can't find fuse, but find another battery charger. Now need to *tidy* garages. It's cold. I come inside, leaving Tim "Iceman" Walker to do the job.

What a day.

I finally have my watch and mobile phone back, and the car is on charge (giving it a deep charge, not the top up I did before) before I take it into the nice tyre place (where they loved Ellie's ballet) to get a new one fitted - I'm fed up with this.

Bright points: got two cottage bookings, (although one will involve the quickest changeover *ever* as it's over the FilkCon weekend, and we've got friends in there immediately before and possibly after!). Whilst emptying and tidying the garages, Tim found a whole bunch of our nice artwork which had been in a cupboard in the garage since our move from Gravesend. I'm very happy to have some of these back again - I've missed them!

Now, I need to do laundry in a major way and ready the cottage for a new visitor tomorrow.
